Description »

This 2-day workshop will go over the fundamentals of papermaking and deeply dive into imaging techniques with hand-cut stencils and pigmented pulp. On Day 1, we will make sheets of handmade paper using abaca and cotton as well as cut stencils to use for patterning and blowouts. On Day 2, the focus will be on pulp painting, a technique where finely beaten pulp is pigmented and mixed with methyl cellulose to create a smooth paste similar to paint. Participants will experiment on their sheets from Day 1 with different ways of pulp painting, layering, and mark making using various tools such as squeeze bottles, brushes, and small hand tools.
Participants will also have the opportunity to embed collage elements into newly made sheets of paper, such as  photos, hair, leaves, etc. We will supply a variety of materials to embed but participants are also encouraged to bring their own, as long as they’re flat and relatively thin.

Limited to 5 participants. This is a great class for any level.
