This workshop will explore creating images in hand papermaking using a variety of stenciling techniques. Students will use hand-cut plastic stencils, found objects, and shaped deckles to create a variety of forms. We will investigate image reversal/mirroring, registration techniques, and modifications to paper pulp so that it behaves more like paint or ink.
Participants will develop images through layering, masking, and overlapping veils of pulp. Basic sheet forming and pigmenting will be reviewed.
